Spine Tech Breakthrough: Centinel Hits 300,000 Implant Milestone Worldwide

Centinel Spine

WEST CHESTER, PACentinel Spine said more than 300,000 prodisc total disc replacement devices have now been implanted globally, marking a major milestone for the company’s flagship cervical and lumbar technologies and reinforcing its position in the fast-growing spine-surgery market.

The announcement follows the company’s presentations last week at the North American Spine Society’s 40th annual meeting in Denver, where surgeons highlighted decades of clinical results tied to the prodisc platform. Centinel said the system’s long-term data — including a reported reoperation rate below 1% — continues to drive surgeon adoption in the United States and abroad.

Centinel’s prodisc line is the only total disc replacement system in the U.S. with FDA-approved two-level indications for both cervical and lumbar use. The company recently received additional FDA premarket approvals for two-level applications of its prodisc C Vivo and prodisc C SK devices, expanding treatment options for patients with degenerative spine conditions.

The platform offers multiple anatomically tailored implants for various spine levels, allowing surgeons to “Match-The-Disc” to individual patient anatomy — a differentiating feature supported by more than 540 peer-reviewed studies. Centinel said continued innovation remains a priority, citing updates to its lumbar systems, expanded cervical offerings, and ongoing development of new instrumentation.

Surgeons involved in the technology’s evolution say the milestone reinforces its durability and clinical value. Dr. Michael Janssen of the Center for Spine & Orthopedics in Denver said the devices have significantly improved patient outcomes over two decades, while Singapore-based spine surgeon Dennis Hey noted the system’s stability and controlled motion contribute to long-term construct longevity.

CEO Steve Murray said the 300,000-implant benchmark reflects the trust surgeons place in total disc replacement as an alternative to spinal fusion, adding that Centinel remains focused on supporting global adoption and advancing treatment options for patients with cervical and lumbar disease.
