NOTTINGHAM, PA — Herr Foods Inc. has released three limited-edition potato chip flavors tied to America’s 250th anniversary after nearly 100,000 consumer votes selected winners in the company’s annual Flavored by Philly campaign.
The fifth edition of the promotion, branded “Flavored by Philly: Taste the 250,” produced three winning flavors — Freedom Loaded Cheese Fries, Liberty Hickory Barbeque, and Unity Jalapeño Cream Cheese — inspired by themes connected to the nation’s founding and Philadelphia’s historical role.
The flavors were chosen through public voting conducted between Nov. 12 and Dec. 10, 2025, as part of a special America250-themed competition, the company said.
The winning chips draw inspiration from Philadelphia landmarks and historical figures, including Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, and Betsy Ross. The products are being sold for a limited time during the summer through retail outlets and online channels where Herr’s products are available.
The campaign reflects the company’s ongoing strategy of using regional identity and consumer participation to develop limited-run products. Since launching Flavored by Philly in 2021, Herr’s has introduced flavors inspired by Philadelphia-area food traditions, including cheesesteaks, roast pork and tomato pie.
“America’s 250th is an amazing time to be able to share potato chip flavors made by the people for the people,” Ed Herr, executive chairman of the board, said in a statement. “Flavored by Philly: Taste the 250 is our way of honoring the city that continues to inspire our flavors and our fans.”
The three winning flavors are:
- Freedom Loaded Cheese Fries — a ripple potato chip flavored with cheese, bacon and french-fry seasonings.
- Liberty Hickory Barbeque — a barbecue-flavored ripple chip featuring molasses and hickory notes.
- Unity Jalapeño Cream Cheese — a ripple chip combining cream cheese flavor with mild jalapeño spice.
Herr’s, a family-owned snack manufacturer founded 80 years ago and headquartered in Chester County, said the promotion was designed to align with nationwide celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026.
