NOTTINGHAM, PA — Herr’s is expanding its cheese-snack portfolio with a four-cheese mac-and-cheese flavored curl as the Pennsylvania snack maker seeks to capitalize on growing U.S. demand in a category where it says it is contributing disproportionately to retail sales growth.
Herr’s Four Cheese Mac ‘n Cheese Flavored Cheese Curls are available in concession, single-serve and family-size packages through retailers carrying Herr’s products and online, according to the company.
The new product combines parmesan, mozzarella, cheddar and romano flavors. The curls are oven-baked with real cheese, gluten-free and certified kosher dairy.
The launch comes 50 years after Herr’s introduced cheese curls in 1976 and as manufacturers broaden the category beyond traditional cheese flavors into premium cheeses, spicy varieties and other seasonings.
Herr’s accounted for 15% of U.S. multi-unit retail sales growth in the cheese-snack category from Jan. 1 through Aug. 9, according to Circana data cited by the company. Herr’s did not provide its overall category market share or dollar sales for the period.
The new flavor joins a portfolio that includes Crunchy Cheesy Chomz, Buffalo Blue Cheese Curls, OLD BAY-seasoned Cheese Curls and Stubb’s Sticky Sweet BAR-B-Q Cheese Curls.
Herr’s produces its cheese curls in Pennsylvania using corn meal and an oven-baked rather than fried production process.
The family-owned company, headquartered in Nottingham, has been producing snack foods for more than 80 years.
