NOTTINGHAM, PA — Herr’s is accepting entries through November 2 for its sixth annual Flavored by Philly competition, offering $15,000 in combined prizes to consumers and Philadelphia-area food businesses as the Chester County snack manufacturer seeks new potato chip flavors based on local restaurants and food products.
In case you missed it, the contest invites participants to nominate a flavor inspired by a restaurant, eatery or food company in the Philadelphia region. The winning entrant will receive $5,000, while the business associated with the selected flavor will receive $10,000.
Herr’s will select three finalists from the submissions through a judging panel. The company plans to manufacture and release all three flavors in early summer 2027, allowing consumers to sample the products before voting for a winner.
The competition gives local food businesses an opportunity to have their signature dishes or products adapted into a commercially distributed snack, while providing Herr’s with consumer-generated concepts for its product lineup.
“In Philadelphia, food isn’t just food. It’s pride, passion, and a topic everyone has an opinion on,” said Ed Herr, executive chairman of Herr’s board.
The public voting period will run for eight weeks after the finalist flavors are released. Consumers who participate will be entered into weekly drawings for Herr’s merchandise and snack products, with one winner selected each week.
The Local Eats format returns for the sixth year of Flavored by Philly, continuing the company’s use of regional food preferences to develop limited-run potato chip varieties.
Flavor nominations can be submitted at Herrsflavoredbyphilly.com through November 2, 2026. The three finalists are scheduled to reach consumers next summer, with the winning flavor determined by public vote.
