CHESTER COUNTY, PA — Ellen Langas, a Chester County author and youth career education advocate, is expanding the retail reach of her Girls Know How book series through a five-day promotion on QVC.com beginning Nov. 9, offering three children’s books designed to introduce young readers to careers in construction, education and science.
The promotion coincides with National Young Readers Week, running Nov. 9-13, and features an exclusive three-book collection aimed at children ages 7 to 12.
The arrangement places Langas’ career-focused children’s literature on QVC’s online retail platform, connecting the series with consumers seeking educational reading materials.
The collection includes Raising the Roof, which introduces careers in construction; Smart Alex, which explores teaching; and Super Science Girls!, which focuses on science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers.

Copies of Super Science Girls! included in the collection are hand-signed by Langas.
Each paperback contains more than 120 pages, original color cover artwork and a biography of a woman working in the profession featured in the story.
The books also include career exploration activities intended to help children connect fictional stories with potential educational and professional opportunities.
Additional activities are available through GirlsKnowHow.com, while an online Classroom Corner provides study guides for educators and families.
Langas launched Girls Know How nationally in 2009 with a focus on introducing children, particularly girls, to career possibilities through fictional characters and examples of women working in different fields.
The series combines chapter-book storytelling with information about occupations, emphasizing the connection between reading, career awareness and personal development.
“We hope to inspire children to read and to follow their dreams by exposing them to a variety of careers, exceptional role models and fictional characters who might be just like them,” Langas stated.
She also emphasized the importance of challenging assumptions about which careers children should pursue.
“It’s important that we build an inclusive culture and experience, especially for girls, and eliminate preconceived notions of what they can or cannot achieve,” Langas stated.
Beyond retail distribution, Girls Know How has donated more than 4,000 books to nonprofit organizations, including Girl Scouts of the USA, Girls Inc., Big Brothers and Sisters, Girls Exploring Technology Today and Habitat for Humanity.
Those donations have extended the series’ reach through organizations involved in youth development, education and mentoring.
Langas is also a screenwriter and founder of NouSoma Communications. Her work includes youth career education and the development of resources intended to help children explore their interests and future employment possibilities.
The QVC.com promotion runs from Monday, Nov. 9, through Friday, Nov. 13. The three-book collection is available at https://qvc.co/GirlsKnowHow.
