PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Horror fans, movie lovers, and families alike will once again descend on downtown Phoenixville this weekend as Blobfest returns to The Colonial Theatre for three days of classic sci-fi fun, quirky traditions, and new carnival-inspired experiences celebrating the iconic 1958 film The Blob.
Now in its 27th year, the festival has grown into one of Chester County’s signature summer events, drawing thousands of visitors from across the country to the very theater made famous by the classic Steve McQueen film. This year’s “Cirque Du Blobfest” theme adds a playful circus atmosphere with new performances, themed screenings, and interactive events alongside longtime festival favorites.
Among this year’s biggest additions is an enhanced Friday night opening celebration, where a Ringmaster and troupe of carnival musicians will lead attendees into the legendary Run Out before the festival’s first-ever Rocky Horror Picture Show-style interactive screening of The Blob.
Another new attraction, Dinner en Blob, puts a crimson spin on the popular Dinner en Blanc concept by inviting guests dressed entirely in red to bring their own tables, decorations, food, and beverages to a secret location transformed into a sea of scarlet for an evening celebration.
Film fans can also enjoy an expanded lineup of circus-themed movies throughout the weekend, including Dumbo, Big Top Pee-Wee, Clown in a Cornfield, and Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
Returning traditions continue to anchor the festival, including the Saturday Street Fair & Kids Carnival, the annual Costume Contest, the Spanish-language screening La Masa Devoradora, and the 9th Annual Blobfest 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon.
Quoted by The New York Times as a place where “the spirit of Blobfest seems to absorb people into the festival ranks,” the event has become one of the region’s most recognizable celebrations of cult cinema and community spirit.
