NUNSENSE at SALT, Thinking Both Outside and Inside the Box to Put on a Pandemic Friendly Show! November 6 – 15, 2020

NUNSENSE

CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — SALT Performing Arts is excited to announce the hilarious hit musical, NUNSENSE — with an innovative pandemic-appropriate set and blocking — coming November 6 – 15.

NUNSENSE is a musical comedy with a book, music, and lyrics by Dan Goggin. Originating as a line of greeting cards, Goggin expanded the concept into a cabaret show and eventually into a full-length hilarious musical about the misadventures of five nuns trying to manage a fundraiser for their convent, The Sisters of Hoboken. Sadly, the rest of the sisterhood died from botulism after eating vichyssoise prepared by Sister Julia Child of God. Thus, the remaining nuns – ballet-loving Sister Leo, street-wise Sister Robert Anne, befuddled Sister Mary Amnesia, the Mother Superior Sister Regina, and mistress of the novices Sister Mary Hubert – stage a talent show in order to raise the money to bury their dearly departed. Our cast is made up of five powerhouse women with excellent comedy chops and heavenly voices. And in true SALT inventive fashion, we’ve thought outside of the box, and put our performers inside of a box. Our five amazing actresses will be performing the show from INSIDE of plexiglass confessional booths.

“Although my 2020 New Year’s resolution was to SIMPLIFY life, this year had other things in mind!” comments Lauren McComas, President and Artistic Director of SALT Performing Arts. “Since March, SALT has had to continually adjust programming in order to keep our community connected and SALT afloat. Granted, it isn’t easy to contain the INCREDIBLE talent of our 5 diva nuns, but we’re pretty proud of how we adjusted the set and blocking to ensure that pandemic safety protocols are met with each sister in her own plexiglass confessional booth! In accordance with pandemic guidelines, our theatre will be at partial capacity. Audience members will be seated in “pods” of patrons wishing to sit together.”
