MEDIA, PA — Philadelphia’s top Brazilian Jazz ensemble, Minas, is set to perform at Delaware County Community College on Thursday, March 28. The concert, featuring local residents Orlando Haddad and Patricia King, promises an evening of enchanting melodies and captivating rhythms.
Minas, known for their fresh and innovative sound, blending elements of Brazilian and American music roots. Their repertoire ranges from melancholic Blues and Choro ballads to Folk tunes with a cool Bossa Nova pulse, and from upbeat Sambas to intricate jazz improvisations. Their unique style, complete with scat singing and whimsical whistling, ensures a musical experience like no other.
With a collection of over 100 songs, Haddad and King’s compositions have been likened to classics by Cole Porter and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Their music captures the essence of great songwriting, combining memorable melodies, inventive harmonies, and poetic lyrics to create timeless and engaging compositions.
Haddad and King have spent over four decades dedicated to performing and teaching Brazilian music. The concert is part of the College’s 2023-2024 Concert Series and will take place in the Large Auditorium in the Academic Building.
