PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Families in Chester and Montgomery County are in for a treat on Saturday, August 10th, as the Colonial Theatre hosts an afternoon of timeless comedy. The event, starting at 1:30 PM, will showcase a selection of beloved Three Stooges shorts alongside a full-length Laurel and Hardy feature, ensuring an entertaining experience for all ages.

Organized by the local chapters of the Sons of the Desert Laurel and Hardy appreciation groups – Their First Mistake from Downingtown and Two Tars from Philadelphia – this event promises a nostalgic journey through some of the finest moments in classic comedy. Attendees will enjoy the remastered versions of four iconic Three Stooges shorts, including “Hoi Polloi” and “Three Little Pigskins,” as well as the highly acclaimed Laurel and Hardy film, “Way Out West,” which many critics hail as their best work.

The Colonial Theatre, a historic venue dating back to 1903, provides a fitting backdrop for this cinematic celebration. Elaine Madden, the ‘Grand Sheik’ of the Two Tars, emphasized the unique appeal of the event, stating, “Most youngsters have never been exposed to these classic comedies before, and they really laugh when they watch them. Their parents probably have never seen these classics on a big screen, which is how they were meant to be enjoyed.”

For those interested in learning more about the Sons of the Desert Two Tars group or the upcoming event, Elaine Madden, the “Exhausted Sheik,” can be contacted at twotarsphilly@gmail.com. Additional event details are available on their Facebook group.

The Two Tars Tent boasts a rich history of bringing Laurel and Hardy, along with other classic comedies, to the Philadelphia area for over 50 years. Notably, this group played a pivotal role in establishing the IntraTent Journal, a publication of the International Sons of the Desert.
