The Power Of Art: Chester County’s 8th Annual High School Art Contest Combats Domestic Violence

WEST CHESTER, PA — In a unique blend of creativity, youth empowerment, and social advocacy, the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County (DVCCC) is hosting its 8th Annual High School Student Art Contest & Exhibition. This platform allows the county’s young artists to shed light on the pervasive issue of domestic violence.

From Creativity to Advocacy

The contest encourages Chester County’s high school students, from grades 9-12, to create artworks imbued with messages of support, resilience, and unity. An opportunity for students to use their preferred creative medium, the artwork also serves as a call to action, addressing the crucial issue of domestic violence. The incorporation of the color purple, symbolic of domestic violence awareness, is a powerful nod to the cause they represent.

Celebrating Talent, Invoking Change

Esteemed judges will decide the award winners based on factors such as understanding of contest themes, emotion, technique, and creativity. The recognition will include prizes for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners as well as a People’s Choice Winner, decided by public vote.

Public Exhibition and Reception

The culmination of this contest will be a public exhibition from March 30 through April 6th, 2024, at Sunset Hill Jewelers & Fine Arts Gallery, located at 23 N High St in West Chester, followed by a reception and awards ceremony on April 6th, 2024 from 2-4 PM. Sponsored by the National Arts Program and the Chester County Art Association, the event honors the efforts and talents of the youth, their artworks having the power to start meaningful, change-oriented conversations about domestic violence.
