CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — SALT Performing Arts presents the Little Women, based on the well known and loved famous novel by Louisa M. Alcott, September 7h through 16th, 2018. Bring-Your-Own-Food-&-Drink Dinner while enjoying this brilliant dramatization by playwright Peter Clapham.

The adaptation and structure of the play faithfully covers that of the novel, interweaving the lives of the March girls, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy, and Laurie, the boy next door, as they grow up happily together – yet the action is contained neatly in one set. All the overtones of gaiety and the undertones of sadness are here, bringing the story completely to life in a way which is both accurate and dramatically satisfying.

Performances are:

  • Friday, September 7th 7- 9:00 PM
  • Saturday, September 8th 7- 9:00 PM
  • Sunday, September 9th 2 – 4:00 PM
  • Friday, September 14th 7- 9:00 PM
  • Saturday, September 15th 7- 9:00 PM
  • Sunday, September 16h 2 – 4:00 PM

“Little Women is a “coming of age” drama of four sisters set during the American Civil War. With the girls’ father away serving as a minister to the troops, their beloved mother, Marmee, must struggle to make ends meet with the help of their kind and wealthy neighbor, Mr. Laurence, and his high-spirited grandson Laurie,” says Lauren McComas, President and Artistic Director of SALT. “This SALT production is even more special to me as I’ve been holding out for a role that I can really sink my teeth into. I’m thrilled to be playing Jo since Jo doesn’t just comply with social conventions, but instead is strong, passionate and comfortable going against societal norms of the time.”

The show is directed by Catherine Ogden with a crew of Stage Manager/Costumes Elizabeth Tozer, Assistant Stage Manager Chelsea Barnett and Tech Director/Set Designer Rob Merow. The cast is: Emma Shellhamer, Emily Merow, Lauren McComas, Elizabeth Hennessey, Elaine Schmidt, Katrya Oransky-Petyk, Lauren Flanagan, Ryan Cassidy, Kurt Kunsch, Andrew Maksymowych, Joe Wadlinger.
