EXTON, PA – Registration has opened for the 24th annual GETT: Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology event, slated for October 26 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center. This pioneering initiative, organized by the Chester County Economic Development Council (CCEDC) and its Innovative Technology Action Group (ITAG), aims to ignite interest in STEM among girls in grades 4 through 10.

GETT offers a dynamic platform for young girls to engage with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through hands-on activities. The event showcases a diverse array of disciplines, including robotics, coding, environmental science, and aerospace engineering. With more than 100 interactive exhibits, participants can engage in activities led by women leaders from the region’s top STEM companies. This experience not only provides practical exposure but also emphasizes the importance of female role models in these fields.

Leigh Craig, CCEDC Project Manager for STEM Innovation, underscores the event’s significance: “Our larger location will enable us to welcome even more girls to be inspired by and learn from additional STEM company exhibitors and expanded hands-on activities.” This expansion reflects a dedication to nurturing passion and skills that will shape the future workforce.

Marianne Stack, CCEDC Project Director of ITAG, highlights the gender gap in STEM, stating, “Girls and boys at these ages have similar abilities in STEM subjects, but this is the time when girls start to experience a decline in their confidence, interest, or feeling of acceptance in these fields.” GETT serves as a pivotal point for reversing this trend by connecting girls with local women leaders who demonstrate the exciting and fulfilling nature of STEM careers.

Despite women comprising 48% of the total U.S. workforce, they represent only 35% in STEM occupations. GETT aims to bridge this gap by fostering a supportive environment where girls can see firsthand the potential and rewards of a STEM career.

This year’s event is supported by numerous sponsors, including notable names like Bentley Systems, Comcast, and QVC, representing a collaborative effort to drive gender parity in STEM. The involvement of these sponsors not only highlights the local commitment to this cause but also enhances the quality and reach of the event.

GETT stands as a testament to the power of community initiatives in empowering young girls. By connecting them with local women leaders and providing a comprehensive STEM experience, the event plays an integral role in shaping the future leaders in these critical fields. For those interested in supporting or participating, further details are available through the CCEDC.
