Owen J. Roberts High School Science Teacher Receives 2026 Citadel Heart of Learning Award

POTTSTOWN, PA — Joseph (Joe) Hawkins, Science Teacher at Owen J Roberts High School, is a 2026 Citadel Heart of Learning Awards winner.

Surrounded by colleagues and many of the students whose lives he positively impacts each and every day, Mr. Hawkins was made aware of the honor during a special surprise ceremony attended by Principal Steven Kollar, Superintendent Will Stout and representatives from Citadel Credit Union. “Every day, Joe embodies the values of Owen J. Roberts School District by keeping his students first, building authentic relationships built on dignity, respect and a sense of belonging,” said Steven Kollar, principal of Owen J. Roberts High School. “Joe’s ability to connect with students, and inspire them to achieve their best, is immediately evident from the moment you walk into his classroom. He’s one of our best teachers and we are honored to count him as a member of our Wildcat Community.”

The Citadel Heart of Learning program honors local teachers throughout Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties who go above and beyond for their students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Throughout the program’s history, more than 400 teachers have received this prestigious award out of thousands of nominations received each year.

Mr. Hawkins nomination included praise for his ability to challenge students, his commitment to remain active in the local community, and his dedication to creating a positive learning environment:

“Mr. Hawkins is an educator who truly puts people first. He is known for always having an open door for students and colleagues and supports others with patience, guidance, and humor, especially during challenges.”

“In the classroom, Mr. Hawkins reaches every learner: supporting students who struggle, challenging advanced and AP students, and believing in each student’s potential.”

“Beyond the classroom, Mr. Hawkins gives his time to support students through the school musical and theater program and he balances all of this while being a devoted parent and community member, modeling kindness and service to others. He makes everyone around him better, and that is why he is so deserving of this award.”
