DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Philadelphia Eagles running back Will Shipley took a break from the gridiron this week to deliver a different kind of message—one centered on leadership, kindness, and the power of consistent effort. Visiting West Bradford and Pickering Valley Elementary Schools, Shipley shared personal lessons on perseverance and teamwork with hundreds of Downingtown Area School District (DASD) students.
The visit, organized by the district’s Office of Student Relations and School Climate, aligned with DASD’s ongoing efforts to promote belonging and collaboration across its schools.
Shipley, greeted by a sea of Eagles green, spoke candidly about his own experiences overcoming obstacles and setting ambitious goals. He urged students to give their best in every aspect of life, saying, “How you do anything is how you do everything.” He encouraged them to apply that mindset not only to academics or sports but also to everyday acts of kindness and responsibility.
“If you go forth with the same effort that you would the most important thing in your life, then you’re going to be a great human all around—not just in the big moments,” Shipley told the students.
After his talk, Shipley joined students in an interactive game and a lively Q&A session, emphasizing that success is built on small, consistent actions rather than singular achievements.
Justin Brown, Director of Student Relations and School Climate, said the visit carried a message that extends beyond football. “Will’s message of perseverance, leadership, and kindness reflects the values we strive to instill in every student,” Brown said. “By encouraging students to lead with empathy, work hard, and support one another, we’re building a community where everyone feels safe, valued, and empowered to succeed.”
The district expressed gratitude to Shipley for volunteering his time and sharing his story. His visit, officials said, reinforced DASD’s commitment to nurturing not only academic growth but also social and emotional well-being — preparing students to thrive in school and beyond.
