WEST GROVE, PA — Avon Grove Charter School will add a full-time police officer at its State Road Campus beginning Monday, Aug. 31, establishing a daily law-enforcement presence for students and staff through a partnership with the Southern Chester County Regional Police Department.
Officer Dewees will serve as the school resource officer at the campus, located at 110 East State Road and serving students in grades 4 through 12, according to the police department.
The assignment extends beyond day-to-day security. Dewees will work with Avon Grove Charter School personnel on emergency preparedness, safety planning, drills and educational programs addressing issues affecting children and teenagers both inside and outside the school environment.
The police department characterized the arrangement as both a security measure and an effort to strengthen relationships between local officers and young people.
Students and staff can expect Dewees to be regularly present in the school’s hallways and interacting with the campus community, according to the department.
The assignment gives Avon Grove Charter School a dedicated officer to coordinate with administrators and staff on emergency preparedness, safety planning and student-safety programs.
