WEST GROVE, PA — The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, to mark the official opening of the newly renovated Engle Education Center, a facility designed to expand specialized educational services for students across Chester County.
The event, set for 4 p.m. at 107 Schoolhouse Road, will feature remarks from local education leaders, a ribbon-cutting with Engle students, guided tours of the building, and refreshments prepared by culinary students from the Technical College High School Pennock’s Bridge campus.
Speakers will include Dr. George F. Fiore, CCIU executive director; Bonnie J. Wolff, CCIU Board of Directors president; Dr. Dorothy Linn, Avon Grove school district president; and Dr. Scott DeShong, Avon Grove School District superintendent.
“The opening of the Engle Education Center represents a transformative investment for our learners, families, and community,” Fiore said. “This facility reflects our unwavering commitment to innovation in education. We are proud to provide a space where every learner is supported, empowered, and inspired to thrive.”
The project, undertaken in partnership with the Avon Grove School District, transformed the former Fred S. Engle Middle School into a modern center equipped to serve students with a wide range of needs. The new facility includes:
- Flexible, accessible classrooms supporting individualized education programs.
- Services for students with autism, emotional support needs, multiple disabilities, and life skills development.
- Expanded early childhood programs, including preschool special education, Head Start, and Early Head Start.
- Outdoor learning areas with canopies and accessible playgrounds.
The Engle Education Center now has capacity for more than 130 school-age students and 225 early childhood learners, establishing it as a central hub for specialized and inclusive education in the county.
The ribbon-cutting coincides with the September CCIU Board Meeting, highlighting what officials call a significant milestone in advancing educational opportunities for local families.
