EXTON, PA — State Rep. Danielle Friel Otten, D-Chester, will host a free document-shredding event Saturday, October 24, at North Brandywine Middle School, giving residents a way to securely dispose of sensitive paperwork and reduce the risk of identity theft.
The drive-through event will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the school, located at 256 Reeceville Road in West Brandywine Township.
Residents may bring up to four file-size boxes of paper documents per vehicle. Materials will be shredded on-site, with staff and volunteers unloading documents directly from vehicle trunks.
“Shred events provide a simple, secure way for people to protect themselves from identity theft while clearing out unwanted documents,” Friel Otten said.
The event is restricted to paper materials. Staples and small paper clips are permitted, but binder clips, binders, cardboard, X-ray films, and photographs will not be accepted.
Drivers must remain inside their vehicles and open their trunks for unloading. Empty boxes and bags will be returned after their contents are removed.
The service is available to individuals, not businesses, and will operate rain or shine on a first-come, first-served basis.
Shredding will end when the truck reaches capacity, even if that occurs before the scheduled 3 p.m. closing time.
Residents seeking additional information can contact Friel Otten’s district office at 484-200-8259.
