WAYNE, PA — Runners and walkers alike will converge at Wilson Farm Park for a meaningful cause as the Drishti Foundation organizes a 5K or 1K run/walk. This event aims to support blind and visually impaired children, in collaboration with the Royer-Greaves School for Blind in Paoli, Pennsylvania, and the American Council of the Blind (ACB).

The 5K run, which can be accessed via a dedicated registration link, promises to be a day of community spirit and philanthropy. The Drishti Foundation, initiated by high and middle school students, is driven by the powerful motto inspired by Helen Keller: “Because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.” This mantra underpins their mission to support the blind and visually impaired, fostering a culture of service among children and adults.

The collaboration with Royer-Greaves School for Blind will focus on enhancing vocational programming for the individuals they serve. Meanwhile, the ACB will use the proceeds to award college scholarships to Pennsylvania residents or any blind student meeting their qualifications.

State legislators, including State Rep. Melissa Shusterman, State Sen. John Kane, and State Sen. Carolyn Comitta, have recognized Drishti’s efforts in enabling education for blind students. Since its inception, Drishti has organized numerous fundraisers addressing various needs such as cataract surgeries for the underprivileged, scholarships for the blind, and medical care for visually impaired children.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Drishti raised funds to send medical equipment to impacted communities, including schools for the handicapped. The organization’s volunteers have worked with local and international entities such as the Chester County Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Vision Corps, and Overbrook School for the Blind, as well as schools for blind children in India and Nepal.
