Discover Chester County’s Hidden Histories in 2025 Town Tours & Walks

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Commissioners Josh Maxwell, Marian Moskowitz, and Eric Roe unveiled the highly anticipated 2025 Town Tours & Village Walks program, set to begin on Thursday, June 12, in West Chester.

Returning for its 31st year, the program adopts the theme, “Untold Stories,” shedding light on the lives of everyday citizens and their contributions to Chester County’s rich history. From figures tied to the Underground Railroad and Revolutionary War soldiers to farmers and educators, these untold stories aim to connect attendees with the diverse heritage of the region.

The summer series spans 10 events open to the public, running from June 12 to August 21. Registration is not required, and attendees should visit the listed starting locations to join the events.

2025 Town Tours & Village Walks Schedule:
  • June 12: Kickoff at Church of the Holy Trinity, West Chester Borough. Tours include tales of Marquis de Lafayette in West Chester, “Buffalo Bill,” lily smuggling, the Shadd family, “The Invisible Man,” among others.
  • June 19: Juneteenth programs throughout Chester County during the week of the holiday (some events may incur a fee).
  • June 26: Lukens Executive Building, Coatesville. Celebrating 100 years of the Art Deco Movement with unique stories and local architecture highlights.
  • July 10: Warwick County Park, Warwick Township. Exploration of the park’s role in the iron industry and the lesser-known historical figures tied to it.
  • July 26: Lafayette Day, Thornbury Farm (AM) and West Chester Borough (PM). Includes a morning walk to Birmingham Hill and a Lafayette memorial parade in the afternoon.
  • July 31: Barnard Station, Pocopson Township. Focus on 19th-century abolitionist efforts to end slavery while promoting freedom and community values.
  • August 7: Self-guided Driving Tour in the Oxford region. Tour historic villages such as Homeville, Russellville, and Hopewell, celebrated for their agricultural heritage.
  • August 14: Hopewell Furnace, Warwick Township. Discover the lesser-known laborers and drovers behind the success of the Furnace’s operations.
  • August 21: Historic Yellow Springs, West Pikeland Township. Highlights include spring water therapies for Revolutionary War soldiers and connections to Burt Bacharach’s contributions to “The Blob.”
