PHILADELPHIA, PA — Comedy and hip-hop will share the spotlight at Punch Line Philly when Cipha Sounds brings his mix of stand-up, storytelling and decades of music-industry experience to the city for three performances Oct. 9 and 10.
The comedian, DJ and media personality has spent more than 25 years working across comedy, music and culture. He currently tours and performs with Dave Chappelle, Mo Amer and Michelle Wolf and is a regular at New York’s Comedy Cellar.
His Philadelphia stop follows the June 2026 release of “Likable,” his 30-minute stand-up special through Kevin Hart’s LOL! Network.
Before establishing himself in stand-up, Cipha Sounds spent 17 years at New York radio station HOT 97, where his career put him at the center of hip-hop during a formative period for the genre.
His work included breaking music by Rihanna and Rick Ross on New York radio and helping introduce audiences to artists including 50 Cent, Sean Paul, Died for Jay-Z and Yasiin Bey. He also produced music for Lil Wayne and held A&R positions at Rawkus Records, Tommy Boy Records, Pharrell Williams’ Star Trak and Jay-Z’s Roc-A-Familia.
That background continues to shape a comedy style built around sharp observations, storytelling and improvisation.
Cipha Sounds also co-hosted “Juan Epstein,” an early hip-hop podcast that featured conversations with artists including Jay-Z and Eminem. His television work has included A&E’s “Hip Hop Treasures,” while his “Take It Personal” show combined hip-hop storytelling with live improv comedy and was later developed into an original series for TIDAL.
More recently, he performed as a DJ for tens of thousands of people at Ms. Lauryn Hill’s Diaspora Calling! festival in the United Kingdom.
