WILMINGTON, DE — InterDigital Inc. (Nasdaq: IDCC) released a documentary-style film outlining its work on 6G, video and artificial intelligence as the wireless-technology developer seeks to reinforce its position in the standards and intellectual property underpinning future connected devices.

The film, “Built on Innovation: InterDigital and the Future of Connectivity,” focuses on the company’s research and standards contributions as the telecommunications industry moves from 5G-Advanced toward 6G.

InterDigital has invested nearly $3 billion in research and portfolio development over the past 20 years, building a portfolio of more than 40,000 patents and patent applications, according to the company.

Its employees also hold more than 100 leadership positions across wireless and video standards organizations. InterDigital contributes technologies to groups including 3GPP, MPEG and IEEE, where technical standards help ensure interoperability among networks, devices and services.

The company’s business model centers on developing foundational technology and licensing the resulting intellectual property rather than manufacturing consumer-facing products.

“We are not the logo on the front of the product, but we are often the innovation underneath it,” President and Chief Executive Officer Liren Chen stated.

InterDigital’s 6G research includes intelligent and adaptive networks, integrated sensing and communications, connected vehicles, autonomous systems, extended-reality devices and AI-enabled services.

The company is conducting fundamental research, prototyping and trials while contributing to the standards expected to shape the next generation of wireless technology.

Chief Technology Officer Rajesh Pankaj characterized the convergence of wireless, video and AI as central to the company’s 6G strategy.

“Future networks will not simply transmit data; they will help understand, optimize, and respond to the world around them,” Pankaj stated.

InterDigital is also researching video compression, media delivery and machine-oriented video technology for autonomous systems. Its work spans streaming, high-dynamic-range video, extended reality and other data-intensive applications.

The film extends InterDigital’s effort to raise the profile of research that is generally embedded in devices and networks rather than marketed directly to consumers.
