CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — The Mill at Anselma said it has received a $24,656 grant from The McLean Contributionship to fund preservation work on its historic mill building, including treatment of trim and gables to prevent structural deterioration.
The organization said the funding will support a linseed oil treatment designed to protect original wood from moisture damage, a key concern for the 18th-century structure.
The Mill at Anselma, built in 1747, operates as a preserved working gristmill and is maintained by a volunteer-led organization.
“This project is about more than just maintenance; it’s about honoring the history we’ve been entrusted to protect,” said Ernie Holling, president and chairman of the board.
Holling said the grant supports critical preservation needs as the organization prepares for increased visitation tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
The group said its operating model relies on volunteers and donations to maintain the site and its historic equipment.
The preservation work is intended to extend the lifespan of the building’s exterior features while maintaining historically appropriate materials and methods.
The Mill said it plans to host public demonstration events as part of its programming leading up to the anniversary celebrations.
