PAOLI, PA — Three longtime members of the Great Valley Chapter DAR were honored during a recent luncheon after reaching milestone anniversaries that span a combined 200 years of community service through the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
The women — all described by the chapter as nonagenarians — were recognized at LaScala’s Fire Restaurant in Newtown Square, where they shared stories about the chapter’s early years and service projects, and were presented with certificates and flowers by board members, according to the chapter.
Lynne S. Anderson, of Newtown Square, marked 60 years in the organization. A charter member, she helped found the Great Valley chapter, served on its board, and remains active, the chapter said.
Alva S. Hayes, of Wallingford, reached 65 years of membership. She is also a founding member and has held multiple leadership roles, the chapter said.
Mary Jane L. Matson, of Valley Forge, was recognized for 75 years in the organization, including chapter, state, and national-level positions. The chapter said she traces her family lineage to nine patriots who fought in the Revolutionary era.
The Great Valley chapter said it is named in recognition of the 40,000 acres deeded to Welsh settlers by William Penn in 1682 and is based in the western Main Line area. With about 150 members, the chapter said it continues work centered on education, historic preservation, and patriotism, including community service activities and student essay contests.
