PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers traveling through Philadelphia should plan for daytime delays later this month as PennDOT conducts routine bridge inspections on two of the city’s most heavily traveled interstates.
PennDOT announced that inspections are scheduled on Interstate 95 and Interstate 676 as part of its federally mandated bridge inspection program, which requires structures to be examined at least once every two years to assess safety and overall condition.
On Monday, January 19, and Tuesday, January 20, a lane closure will be in place from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on northbound I-95 between the Enterprise Avenue and Broad Street (Route 611) interchanges. Additional disruptions are planned Thursday, January 22, when a lane closure will occur from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on westbound I-676 at the I-76 and 22nd Street interchange.
PennDOT warned that traffic backups and delays are likely during inspection periods and urged motorists to allow extra travel time when moving through the affected areas. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
While the inspections are routine, they play a critical role in ensuring the long-term safety and reliability of bridges that carry tens of thousands of vehicles each day through the city’s core transportation network.
With multiple daytime lane closures planned on major commuter routes, motorists are strongly encouraged to plan ahead and stay informed.
