Overnight Lane Closures on I-476: Major Repairs to Impact Commuters This Week

Lane restrictions

WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that nighttime construction will continue this week on I-476 as part of a $63.7 million project aimed at resurfacing, repairing, and improving nearly 17 miles of the interstate from I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Montgomery County to I-95 in Delaware County.

From Monday, November 3, through Thursday, November 6, lane closures will be in place nightly from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on both northbound and southbound I-476 near the Media/Swarthmore Interchange (Exit 3) in Nether Providence Township. Crews will be repairing ramp meters as part of the larger infrastructure improvement effort.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area, as delays and congestion are expected. All work is weather dependent.

The multi-phase project includes milling and overlaying lanes, repairing 49 bridges, improving stormwater basins, stabilizing slopes, and upgrading guiderails, signage, and drainage systems. These repairs are designed to enhance safety, extend the life of the interstate, and provide a smoother, more reliable driving experience for thousands of daily commuters.

H&K Group, Inc. of Skippack, Pennsylvania, is managing the federally funded project, which will continue through 2026.
