Police Hunt ‘Man With the Golden Prius’ in Downingtown Wegmans Thefts

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Downingtown Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect accused of multiple retail thefts at the Wegmans grocery store located at 1056 East Lancaster Avenue.

According to police, the suspect—dubbed “The Man with the Golden Prius”—allegedly entered the store on at least two occasions, filling a shopping cart with merchandise before leaving without paying. The incidents occurred on Sunday, September 21, at approximately 8:45 p.m., and again on Thursday, October 2, around 10 p.m.

Authorities said the man, who has a distinctive tattoo sleeve on his left arm, made no attempt to conceal his appearance during the thefts. Surveillance images also show him leaving in what police described as a brightly colored, “exuberant” gold Toyota Prius.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the suspect’s identity to contact the Downingtown Police Department by emailing crimetips@downingtown.org.

All allegations are under investigation, and any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
