PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that paving on the Market Street ramp will require an overnight closure of southbound I-95 in Center City Philadelphia as part of the $329 million I-95 CAP project. The initiative is replacing and expanding the covered section of the interstate between Chestnut and Walnut streets.
On Thursday, September 25, from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, southbound I-95 and the ramp from eastbound I-676 to southbound I-95 will be closed between the I-676 (Exit 22) and Washington Avenue/Columbus Boulevard (Exit 20) interchanges.
During the closure, motorists will be detoured via Callowhill Street, 6th Street, Race Street, and Columbus Boulevard to rejoin I-95 at E. Morris Street/Water Street. Eastbound I-676 traffic heading to I-95 South will follow a similar detour using 6th Street, Race Street, and Columbus Boulevard.
PennDOT advises drivers to expect heavy delays and allow extra time when traveling in the area. For real-time updates, visit the MyChesCo Traffic Center.
