OCOA Becomes First Dominican-Owned Hair Care Brand to Launch at Ulta Beauty

Business News

READING, PA — OCOA, a Dominican-American owned hair care company, has officially made its national retail debut at more than 450 Ulta Beauty stores across the country and online at ulta.com. The launch marks a historic milestone, making OCOA the first Dominican-owned hair care brand to be featured on Ulta’s shelves.

A Brand Rooted in Culture and Community

OCOA’s collection is designed with skincare-level ingredients, bilingual packaging, and formulations that exclude coconut oil—a common irritant for some curl types. The product line includes Curl Care Shampoo and Conditioner, Hydrating Curl Cream, Curl Defining Styling Gel, and the Curl Refresh + Hold Spray, an Ulta-exclusive.

The brand also distinguishes itself as one of the few to meet all five pillars of Ulta’s Conscious Beauty standards, with products that are clean, vegan, cruelty-free, and packaged sustainably.

Industry Recognition

“We are incredibly proud and deeply grateful to be launching in over 450 Ulta Beauty stores as the first Dominican-American curly hair care brand on shelves,” said co-founders Cory and Nicol. “This milestone represents so much more than retail placement. It’s a celebration of culture, community, and the belief that our curls are beautiful as they are.”

Jessica Phillips, vice president of merchandising at Ulta Beauty, highlighted the cultural significance of the launch. “At Ulta Beauty, we’re heavily focused on building an assortment that reflects and supports the diverse needs of our guests, and OCOA is a standout example of that mission in action,” she said.

Celebrating With the Community

To mark the debut, OCOA will host two free events in Pennsylvania in September. The first will take place on September 20 at Ulta Beauty in Lancaster, followed by a second on September 27 at the Fashion District Ulta Beauty in Philadelphia. Attendees will be able to meet the brand’s founders, participate in refresh station activations, and receive products with a gift-with-purchase offer.

With its arrival at Ulta Beauty, OCOA not only expands its reach but also brings greater cultural representation to the beauty aisle, signaling broader recognition of diverse hair care needs in the retail market.
