Claymont Homicide: Police Investigate After Man Found Shot Inside Knollwood Home

CLAYMONT, DENew Castle County police are investigating a homicide in the Knollwood community after officers discovered a man dead inside a residence during a welfare check.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at approximately 9:07 a.m. when officers responded to a home in the unit block of Balfour Avenue. Upon entering the residence, police say they located a deceased individual under suspicious circumstances.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit, Major Crimes Squad, and Evidence Detection Squad were called to the scene to continue the investigation.

The victim was later identified as 53-year-old Clifton Bailey of Claymont, who was found with a gunshot wound to his upper extremity. Officials confirmed that, following the investigation and review by the Delaware Office of the Medical Examiner, the death has been ruled a homicide.
