NEW CASTLE, DE — Delaware State Police have arrested a 32-year-old woman following an alleged stabbing incident at a New Castle motel that left one man injured.
According to investigators, the incident occurred on August 18, 2025, at approximately 2:30 p.m. when troopers were dispatched to the Best Knight Inn, located at 1200 West Avenue, for a reported stabbing.
When officers arrived, they learned that a male victim had allegedly been stabbed in the arm by Tanekqua Stanford of New Castle. The victim was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where his injuries were reported as non-life-threatening.
Police say the investigation determined that the victim had been speaking with Stanford and three other individuals when she allegedly removed a pocketknife from his pocket. When the victim confronted her about returning the knife, she allegedly stabbed him.
Stanford was located a short time later and taken into custody without incident. She was charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony (felony), second-degree assault (felony), and theft under $1,500.
Following her arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 2, Stanford was committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $61,000 cash bond.
Authorities emphasize that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
