Wilmington Man Wanted on Warrants Allegedly Injures Officer While Fleeing Assault Scene

WILMINGTON, DE — A 33-year-old Wilmington man has been arrested following an alleged assault and brief vehicle pursuit that resulted in minor injuries to a police officer, according to authorities.

The incident occurred on the morning of August 2, 2025, when Wilmington Police were dispatched at approximately 10:04 a.m. to the area of 7th and West Streets in response to a reported assault. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a victim who had sustained minor injuries.

While at the scene, officers located the suspect—identified as Kyreese Cook—sitting in a vehicle nearby. As police attempted to approach the vehicle, Cook allegedly drove off, striking an officer and causing minor injuries.

Law enforcement quickly issued an alert for the fleeing vehicle. A short time later, officers located and stopped Cook’s car on Interstate 95 near Naamans Road. He was taken into custody without further incident.

According to police, Cook was already wanted in connection with several unrelated matters prior to the August 2 encounter.

He now faces multiple charges, including second-degree assault, third-degree assault, disregarding a police officer’s signal, and reckless driving. Cook was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and subsequently committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $8,100 secured bail.

All charges against Cook remain allegations. As in all criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
