RIDLEY TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a series of weeknight lane closures on Interstate 476 as part of an ongoing $63.7 million infrastructure project aimed at resurfacing and upgrading nearly 17 miles of the highway from I-76 in West Conshohocken to I-95 in Ridley Township.
Beginning Monday, August 4, and continuing through Friday, August 29, lane closures will occur nightly from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM on both northbound and southbound sections of I-476. The closures are necessary to facilitate work on milling and paving, bridge and guiderail repairs, and line striping.
PennDOT advises motorists to plan for extended travel times, as the closures are expected to cause delays. All operations are weather dependent.
The comprehensive improvement plan includes milling and resurfacing travel lanes and shoulders in both directions, structural repairs on 49 bridges, upgrades to 21 stormwater management basins, sound wall restoration, and replacement of inlets. Additional work will involve the installation of new pavement markings, rumble strips, signage, delineators, and guiderails.
The project is designed to enhance the safety, longevity, and performance of the roadway and its associated infrastructure. H&K Group, Inc., based in Skippack, is overseeing the work, which is fully funded through federal transportation dollars.
