Wilmington Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest, Loaded Gun Recovered from Vehicle

WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man is facing a felony weapons charge following a traffic stop earlier this week that led to the discovery of a loaded firearm, according to city police.

On July 28, 2025, at approximately 12:03 p.m., a Wilmington Police officer conducted a vehicle stop in the 500 block of West 8th Street for a registration-related violation. During the encounter, officers made contact with the driver, identified as 23-year-old Makail West.

While investigating the traffic offense, officers allegedly recovered a loaded 9mm handgun from inside the vehicle. West was taken into custody at the scene without incident.

He has been charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, in addition to multiple traffic-related violations. West was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 20 and was released on $2,002 unsecured bail.

It is important to note that all charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The case remains under active investigation.
