Overnight Closures on Kelly Drive for Paving Work Set to Begin August 4

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Milling and paving operations will temporarily shut down sections of Kelly Drive overnight beginning Monday, August 4, as part of a PennDOT initiative to repair and resurface more than 200 miles of state highways across the region.

Closures will occur weeknights from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM through Friday, August 29, rotating between two segments:

  • Ridge Avenue to Fountain Green Drive: Southbound traffic will be detoured via Ridge Avenue, 33rd Street (U.S. 13), Diamond Drive, Reservoir Drive, and Fountain Green Drive. Northbound motorists will follow the reverse route.
  • Reservoir Drive/Strawberry Mansion Drive to 25th Street: Southbound drivers will detour through Reservoir Drive/Strawberry Mansion, Diamond Drive, 33rd Street, Girard Avenue, 29th Street, and Pennsylvania Avenue. Northbound traffic will detour via 25th Street, Pennsylvania Avenue, 27th Street, Girard Avenue, and 33rd Street.

Motorists should anticipate significant delays and are advised to plan accordingly. Work schedules remain weather dependent.

Following the overnight operations, daytime lane closures will continue for inlet and manhole repairs before final paving is completed under a full closure. The final surface layer will employ an ultra-thin bonded wearing course to enhance durability, reduce water infiltration, and improve traction.
