MIDDLETOWN, DE — A woman was killed and two others were seriously injured Monday evening in a single-vehicle crash on Route 301 in Middletown, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Delaware State Police.
The incident occurred on July 28, 2025, at approximately 6:08 p.m., when a black 2018 Toyota Highlander was traveling northbound in the left lane of State Route 301, approaching the overpass for Delaware Route 71. For reasons still under investigation, the SUV veered into the grassy median, climbed an embankment, and became airborne.
According to state police, the vehicle then landed in the right northbound lane of DE-71, rolled over, and struck a concrete jersey barrier before coming to rest on the shoulder.
A woman riding in the rear seat of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are withholding her identity pending notification of next of kin.
The driver, a 62-year-old man, and the front passenger, a 55-year-old woman—both residents of the Bronx, New York—were transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.
The crash shut down the affected stretch of roadway for approximately six hours as members of the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit documented the scene and cleared the wreckage.
