WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man is facing a felony weapons charge after authorities say he was found carrying a loaded handgun during a police response in the city’s Hilltop neighborhood.
On July 25, at approximately 6:04 p.m., officers from the Wilmington Police Department’s Safe Streets Task Force were dispatched to the 300 block of North DuPont Street following a report of an individual armed with a firearm. Upon arrival, officers made contact with 28-year-old Aubrey Lecompte.
According to police, Lecompte was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun. He was taken into custody at the scene without incident.
Lecompte has been formally charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, a serious offense under Delaware law. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and subsequently committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $5,000 cash-only bail.
As with all criminal cases, it is important to remember that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation remains ongoing.
