SMYRNA, DE — A Smyrna man is facing multiple felony charges following an alleged home invasion and assault that took place in April, according to the Delaware State Police.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 33-year-old Steven Mauthe. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on the evening of April 15, 2025, when troopers were called to a residence on Ivy Ridge Court for a reported home invasion and assault.
According to investigators, Mauthe is accused of entering a home occupied by the homeowner and a 76-year-old man, both of whom are said to be known to him. An argument reportedly broke out between Mauthe and the older man, during which Mauthe allegedly punched the victim in the face multiple times before fleeing the scene. Troopers say Mauthe returned a short time later and again assaulted the same victim, delivering additional blows to the face before fleeing on foot.
After several months of investigation, troopers located Mauthe on July 27 during an unrelated incident in Townsend. He was taken into custody without resistance and transported to Troop 9 for processing.
Mauthe has been formally charged with the following felony offenses:
- Home Invasion Burglary 1st Degree
- Assault 1st Degree
Following arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 7, Mauthe was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $60,000 cash bail.
As with all criminal cases, it is important to note that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation remains ongoing.
