CLAYMONT, DE — Delaware State Police are actively investigating a late-night shooting incident that occurred near Claymont Elementary School, prompting a search for suspects who fled the scene under suspicious circumstances.
The incident unfolded shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, when troopers were dispatched to the vicinity of Claymont Elementary School, located at 3401 Green Street, following reports of gunfire. Officers from the New Castle County Police Department responded alongside state troopers to canvass the area for potential victims, suspects, or property damage.
During the search, authorities discovered an unoccupied white Hyundai Sonata on Green Street. The vehicle, which was found still in drive, appeared to have been struck by a projectile. Investigators believe that the vehicle was abandoned while still in motion by three to four unidentified individuals who fled the area on foot in multiple directions.
According to initial findings, the sound of gunfire was followed by several vehicles rapidly leaving the scene. Fortunately, no injuries or additional property damage have been reported.
At this time, authorities have not released surveillance images or suspect descriptions, and no arrests have been made. The case remains under active investigation by the Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit.
