WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of the Interior announced last week the launch of the Patriot Program, a major three-year initiative aimed at revitalizing America’s public lands in celebration of the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
The program, spearheaded by Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and developed in coordination with President Donald J. Trump, will invest $250 million in infrastructure, preservation, and public access projects at iconic historic sites nationwide. Each federal dollar will be matched by 50 percent in private funding or in-kind contributions, leveraging philanthropic partnerships to maximize taxpayer resources and project impact.
The initiative focuses on a range of efforts, including historic preservation, masonry repairs, trail maintenance, wildland fuel reduction, and improving visitor access. It also aims to “Make America Skilled Again” by engaging youth and young adults in hands-on projects, providing trade skills training, and fostering pathways to sustainable careers in conservation and heritage trades.
“Under the leadership of President Trump, America’s 250th birthday will stand as a proud testament to the greatness of our nation,” Secretary Burgum stated, highlighting the program’s mission to unite Americans in honoring national heroes and preserving the country’s iconic landscapes.
As a signature element of the America 250 commemoration set for 2026, the Patriot Program reflects the goals outlined in Executive Order 14189, calling for a national celebration befitting this historic milestone. The effort underscores a renewed commitment to stewardship, civic pride, and investment in America’s cultural legacy.
