Late-Night I-76 Lane Closures Ahead: What Philly Drivers Should Know

Traffic Alert

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a series of nighttime construction activities next week on I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County. The work is part of a $37.9 million initiative to resurface and repair nearly five miles of roadway, ramps, and over 20 bridges in the project zone.

Starting Monday, June 16, through Friday, June 20, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM each night, lane closures will be enforced on the ramp from westbound I-76 to southbound U.S. 1 (City Avenue) for milling and paving. Additionally, between Monday, June 16, and Wednesday, July 2, weeknight lane closures will occur on sections of I-76 in both directions between the U.S. 1 and I-676 interchanges. These closures will allow crews to conduct line striping, pipe cleaning, sign installation, and barrier repair.

PennDOT has cautioned motorists to expect significant delays and has advised allowing extra time when navigating the affected areas. All scheduled construction activities are weather dependent and subject to change.

Drivers are urged to remain alert, exercise patience, and adhere to all safety protocols while traveling through the work zones.
