SCHUYLKILL TWP, PA — Construction is set to begin on Monday, June 23, on a $1.4 million Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) project to replace the bridge carrying Valley Park Road over Anderson Brook in Schuylkill Township, Chester County.
The project will require a full closure of Valley Park Road between Clothier Springs Road and Anderson Farm Road from June 23 through August 29. Drivers will be directed to follow posted detour routes, including Whitehorse Road, Route 23 (Valley Forge Road), and Ferry Lane. PennDOT advises motorists to allow extra travel time due to expected delays near the work zone.
Under the project, the existing bridge will be replaced with a precast reinforced concrete box culvert. Additional improvements include lowering the road’s vertical profile to eliminate the hump at the bridge and installing brown-painted guiderail along Valley Park Road. The bridge’s span length and horizontal alignment will remain unchanged.
The work is being performed by Lobar Site Development Corporation of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, and is funded exclusively by federal dollars. All construction activities are weather-dependent.
