PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced scheduled nighttime geotechnical drilling on two major highways in Center City Philadelphia. The work is set to begin on Tuesday and will involve lane closures that could significantly impact traffic flow.
From Tuesday, May 27, to Thursday, May 29, geotechnical drilling will take place nightly from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning. The lane closures will occur at two key areas:
- Southbound I-95, between the Aramingo Avenue and I-676 interchanges.
- Eastbound I-676, between I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) and the 6th Street overpass.
PennDOT advises motorists to plan for additional travel time while navigating the affected zones. “Significant backups and delays will occur,” PennDOT stated, urging drivers to exercise caution and consider alternate routes.
It is important to note that all scheduled work is weather dependent. PennDOT has emphasized that these activities are part of their ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the state’s transportation infrastructure, prioritizing safety for all road users.
Travelers are encouraged to stay informed of potential updates and traffic conditions in preparation for next week’s lane closures.
