PHILADELPHIA, PA — Brauhaus Schmitz is bringing the spirit of spring to the city with the 12th Annual Maifest Spring Festival. On Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., the 700 block of South Street will transform into a vibrant outdoor celebration of German culture, featuring live music, authentic cuisine, family-friendly activities, and plenty of beer.

“It’s an honor to bring this tradition to the heart of Philadelphia’s South Street district for an unforgettable day of fun and merriment,” said Brauhaus Schmitz owner Doug Hager. “Our block party has become a cherished tradition for locals and visitors alike, and we can’t wait to celebrate with South Street and our community. Come raise a liter with us under the giant Maypole!”

Maifest, a German celebration marking the arrival of spring, has become one of the most anticipated single-day events in Philadelphia. Drawing over 10,000 attendees annually, it offers something for everyone. Guests can immerse themselves in the festivities, including performances by the Die Heimatklange Band from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., traditional folk dances by the United German Hungarian Dance Group, and the dramatic raising of Pennsylvania’s largest Maypole.

Thrill-seekers can cheer during the Liter Lift Competition at 1 p.m., where participants display their strength by holding a liter of beer aloft for the longest time, all for a chance to qualify for the national finals in New York City. Minutes later, at 1:30 p.m., Brauhaus Schmitz will kick things off with a festive keg-tapping ceremony led by Hager and his team.

Food enthusiasts can savor a menu of classic German delicacies, including bratwurst, schnitzel, potato salad, pretzels, and a Pig Roast. Thirsty celebrants will enjoy a curated lineup of 10 German beers, including crisp pilsners, refreshing wheat beers, and hearty lagers, alongside specialty offerings like cider and the entertaining Schnapsski.
