WEST CHESTER, PA — The YMCA of Greater Brandywine (YGBW) is set to host its annual Breakfast of Champions event on Wednesday, April 23, at Penn Oaks Golf Club. Scheduled from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., the event will celebrate the contributions of the organization’s 5,015 volunteers, who collectively served over 76,800 hours in 2024 across Chester County’s nine YMCA locations.

Laura Milazzo Mackiewicz, YGBW’s Director of Volunteer and Civic Engagement, praised the volunteers’ impact, noting, “It is humbling to think about the difference our volunteers make through their time and dedication. Even a few hours can create meaningful change in our community.”

National Volunteer Appreciation Week, held from April 20 to April 26, aligns with this celebration of local service, which will include breakfast, fellowship, and recognition of standout contributions. At the association level, YGBW will present its Service to Youth, Community Partner, and Distinguished Service awards to State Senator Carolyn Comitta, Truist, and Joe Tankle, respectively.

Additionally, each of YGBW’s branches will honor local volunteers for their efforts supporting youth sports, senior programs, and community services, such as food pantries and outreach events.

Bertram L. Lawson II, President and CEO of YGBW, reflected on the YMCA’s history, emphasizing, “The YMCA was founded by volunteers in 1844, and here in Chester County, volunteerism remains the heart of our mission. Their generosity and commitment uphold a legacy of service and community-building.”

This event underscores gratitude for YGBW’s volunteers while strengthening the association’s call to action for civic engagement. YGBW hopes this celebration will inspire more individuals to contribute their time and talent in support of their community.
