SOMERSET, PA — Josue Quino, a 38-year-old inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Somerset, was discovered unresponsive in his cell on the night of February 6, 2025. Prison staff and emergency medical services immediately performed life-saving measures, but Quino was pronounced dead at 11:21 p.m.
Quino had been serving a 20-to-40-year sentence for a Third-Degree Murder conviction from Philadelphia County. He was transferred to SCI Somerset on November 7, 2024.
Per standard procedure, the Pennsylvania State Police have been notified and are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The official cause of death will be determined by the Somerset County Coroner’s Office.
Prison officials confirmed that Quino’s next-of-kin has been notified. Further details remain under review as the investigation proceeds.
