White Castle USA Luge Slider Search Brings Olympic Hopefuls to Malvern

White Castle USA Luge Slider Search

MALVERN, PA — The White Castle USA Luge Slider Search will roll into Malvern on Saturday, September 13, and Sunday, September 14, offering local youth a chance to learn the fundamentals of luge and potentially begin a path toward the Olympic Games.

Hosted at Saint-Gobain/CertainTeed’s headquarters on Moores Road, the free clinics will be held in three sessions each day—9 to 11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 2 to 4 p.m. Instead of ice, athletes will practice on wheeled luge sleds as part of the program’s off-season recruitment tour.

The Slider Search, founded in 1985, is the primary talent pipeline for the U.S. luge program. It has introduced more than 20,000 young athletes to the sport, with over 20 Olympians and multiple medalists emerging from its ranks. At each stop, participants are coached by members of the U.S. Olympic and National Teams, learning basic steering, stopping, and body positioning before taking runs down a paved luge course. Promising athletes may be invited to continue training at official tracks in Lake Placid, N.Y., or Park City, Utah.

“This program has produced much of the current U.S. Junior National Team, and it remains the foundation of our recruiting efforts,” said officials from USA Luge.

The event is made possible through longstanding partnerships. Norton, a Saint-Gobain brand, has supported USA Luge for more than 30 years, providing technical expertise, equipment, and funding. White Castle, the nation’s first fast-food chain, has served as the exclusive sponsor of the Slider Search since 2017. All participants will receive a White Castle USA Luge Slider Search T-shirt.

For Malvern, the stop represents one of many across the country in 2025 as USA Luge continues to scout the next generation of athletes. With its grassroots approach, the program emphasizes both skill development and fitness testing, ensuring young competitors are prepared for the rigorous demands of the sport.

The upcoming clinics highlight not only a rare opportunity for local children to try an Olympic sport but also a reminder of the long-term investments made by sponsors and coaches in keeping America competitive on the world luge stage.
