After a disappointing series with the New York Mets, the Phillies bounced back against the Atlanta Braves with a 19-4 victory. However, the real highlight of the night was the career night Kyle Schwarber had.Â
Schwarber racked up 4 HRs, 9 RBIs, and brought his total HRs for the year to 49. With this night, Schwarber has cemented himself in Phillie’s history.Â
He became the 21st player in MLB history to notch 4 HRS in a single game. He joins three other Phillies in this one of a kind club: Mike Schmidt (1976), Chuck Klein (1936), Ed Delahanty (1896). He sits only behind Ryan Howard for most HRs in a season, who hit the ball to the yard 58 times in 2006. Schwarber will have 28 games to track down Howard for this record.Â
Schwarber was not alone in his efforts tonight as Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto, & Max Kepler also hit their own homers. The team’s combined 7 matches the all-time franchise record.Â
The Phillies now sit 5 games ahead of the Mets in the NL East, and are the projected 3rd seed for the playoffs. They continue their home stand against the Braves for the next 3 nights, & following that they have a tough series against the 1st seeded Milwaukee Brewers.Â
If Schwarber & the offense can continue to fire at all cylinders, and the pitching can hold, there is no reason Philadelphia cannot get a hold of the 1st seed.
