Before joining the Philadelphia Phillies, Kyle Schwarber hit 153 home runs over seven seasons with the Chicago Cubs, Washington Nationals, and Boston Red Sox. Since arriving in Philadelphia in 2022, he has added another 147 to his tally—none more memorable than the one he launched Monday night at Coors Field.
In the ninth inning of the Phillies’ 9–3 comeback win over the Colorado Rockies, Schwarber launched a towering 466-foot blast—his 16th home run of the season and the 300th of his career.
“It’s a cool milestone,” Schwarber said after the win, acknowledging the significance of the moment. “I think the biggest thing is there’s a lot more to come. If they asked 12-year-old Kyle if he’d hit 300 homers, I would have said, ‘Probably not.’ Right? But I’ve always loved the game and I didn’t know what it would hold, but it’s been really gracious to me.”
Schwarber was able to keep his 300th home run ball after the fan who caught it generously returned it in exchange for a signed bat, as reported by MLB.com. “It’ll be a keepsake here, for sure,” Schwarber said. “Get back home, get that thing boxed up and put it on the wall.”
The home run—Schwarber’s longest since 2023 and the third-longest by any player in MLB this season—etched the Middletown, Ohio, native into the MLB record books. With it, Schwarber became the 163rd player in league history to reach 300 career home runs. He is also the sixth to hit No. 300 while wearing a Phillies uniform, joining Bryce Harper, Ryan Howard, Mike Schmidt, Roy Sievers, and Chuck Klein, per MLB.com.
In addition to Harper, the only active players ahead of Schwarber in career home runs are Giancarlo Stanton, Mike Trout, Paul Goldschmidt, Freddie Freeman, Nolan Arenado, Manny Machado, Aaron Judge, Carlos Santana, and former Phillie Andrew McCutchen. Schwarber currently trails McCutchen by 22 home runs, with McCutchen sitting at 322.
Schwarber played his college ball at Indiana University from 2012 to 2014, helping lead the Hoosiers to their first—and only—College World Series appearance in 2013. He was selected fourth overall by the Chicago Cubs in the first round of the 2014 MLB Draft, making him the highest draft pick in Indiana University baseball history.
With Monday night’s win over the Rockies, the Phillies moved into first place in the NL East, edging half a game ahead of the Mets. At 29–18, they now hold the best record in the National League and the second-best mark in all of MLB, trailing only the Detroit Tigers (31–17). Philadelphia has gone 7–3 over its last 10 games, continuing a strong early-season push.
The Phillies will remain in Colorado through Thursday before heading to West Sacramento, California, to face the Athletics over the holiday weekend.
