ANAHEIM, CA Master Son’s Eagle Taekwondo, a Chester County, Pennsylvania-based martial arts school, made a commanding impression at the 2025 Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Hanmadang, earning a total of nine gold medals in a display of elite talent and discipline. The prestigious event, held July 17–19 at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena, brought together over 2,000 competitors from 32 countries for the 30th anniversary of one of the sport’s most celebrated global tournaments.

Grand Master Joohong Son, head of the Pennsylvania school and a respected figure in international Taekwondo, served as Deputy Secretary General for this landmark edition of the Hanmadang. In addition to his leadership role, Son secured five medals—three gold and two silver—in high-level power breaking and performance categories.

His children and fellow competitors, David Son (3rd-degree black belt) and Esther Son (2nd-degree black belt), also delivered standout performances. David earned three golds and two silvers, while Esther added three golds, one silver, and one bronze to the team’s medal count.

The Hanmadang featured a diverse range of events, from traditional power-breaking (knife-hand, side kick, back kick) and advanced technical challenges like speed breaking and flying front-kick height competitions, to poomsae (forms), self-defense, Taekwondo aerobics, and synchronized team demonstrations.

This year’s event marked the tournament’s first return to the U.S. since 2008 and highlighted the sport’s enduring global appeal and evolving skillset. The impressive showing by Master Son’s Eagle Taekwondo not only underscored the school’s competitive caliber but also reinforced its growing reputation within the international Taekwondo community.

Located at 500 Simpson Drive in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, Master Son’s Eagle Taekwondo continues to be a pillar of martial arts excellence in the region, producing high-level athletes prepared to compete—and win—on the world stage.
