WEST CHESTER, PA — Gas prices in Chester County averaged $3.33 per gallon for regular unleaded as of Saturday, slightly above the national average of $3.32 but below Pennsylvania’s statewide average of $3.55, according to local market data.
Fuel prices have climbed rapidly during the past week as global oil markets react to escalating military conflict involving Iran and disruptions affecting international oil supply.
The national average price for gasoline increased about 34 cents over the past seven days from roughly $2.98 per gallon, representing the largest weekly increase since 2022.
Local fuel prices in Chester County remain lower than many areas of Pennsylvania despite the surge, reflecting regional market conditions and competition among retailers.
Some stations in the county are reporting prices significantly below the countywide average.
A LUKOIL station at 455 Hannum Ave. in West Chester was reporting regular unleaded at $3.00 per gallon.
Just outside the county line in Oaks, a BJ’s Wholesale Club station at 200-C Mill Road listed member pricing at $3.07 per gallon.
In the Thorndale and Downingtown area, Caln Gas at 3727 Lincoln Highway in Thorndale and United Fuel at 299 Route 113 in Downingtown were both reporting prices around $3.30 per gallon.
Prices are higher in other parts of the county, including several Wawa locations in the Parkesburg area reporting regular gasoline at about $3.60 per gallon.
Diesel fuel prices have also increased sharply.
Diesel is averaging about $4.82 per gallon in Pennsylvania, up nearly 60 cents over the past month.
Analysts attribute the price increases to disruptions in global oil shipments following military action involving Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route for roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply.
Brent crude oil prices surpassed $90 per barrel as of March 7 amid concerns about supply interruptions and attacks on energy infrastructure in the Middle East.
Energy analysts say the continued military conflict and the seasonal shift to summer-blend gasoline could push average fuel prices higher in the coming weeks.
Local analysts said Chester County gasoline prices could approach $3.50 per gallon before the end of March if current market conditions persist.
Note on Data Accuracy: Due to the extreme speed of price fluctuations following recent military actions in the Middle East, some discrepancies in reported diesel and regular gasoline averages may exist. Market conditions are shifting rapidly, and local pump prices can change multiple times within a single day.
